'Best kept village' Bassaleg
Bassaleg is discribed as a 'small urban area on the west of the city Newport. The village is part of an electoral district and community of the city Newport. A house in the area called 'Ffos y Fran' costs up to 295,000 pounds, which is equal to 690.000 dollars. The town has got two pubs, a community hall, a sports and social club, postoffice, the school, the church and it's church hall. At day you will see some elderly walking by, and at night you can here a pin drop.
Entering the village, there's a big sign that announces: "Bassaleg, The Best Kept Village for the years: 1982-1983, 1984-1985, 2005-2006, 2006-2007." Bassaleg is one of the winners from the 38 villages in South Wales which competed.
In this photographic reflection of 'The best kept village of this year' I investigated situations, objects and the inhabitants of signs what a village like this does with us humans. What are the effects of a perfectly shaped environment? What is wrong about 'The best kept village 'Bassaleg?
Photographed and produced in 2008.
